The great march of Arba’een is manifestation of Islamic unity as diversity of ethnicities, nationalities and denominations fade.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Hassan Saeedi, dean of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies at Iran’s Shahid Beheshti University, referred to landmarks composing the ideological, cultural and national ambiance of different countries and ethnicities calling Arba’een march as an Islamic landmark unifying people from different ethnicities, nationalities and languages, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He also referred to the Iranian culture interwoven with historical and religious events and the active role of Iranian people in Arba’een among several commemorations at the crossroad of different cultures.

Member of the academic board of religious and mysticism studies at the University of Shahid Beheshti noted the political and social aspect of Arba’een march calling the annual event as a manifestation for solidarity of Islamic nation with the household of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

“Arba’een march can be translated to an instance of cooperation of people joining to march the same path towards the same objective” said the Iranian cleric.

He stressed the great march of Arba’een as symbol of counter-oppression naming the United States as the contemporary example of oppressive power.

The great march of Arba’een is manifestation of Islamic unity as diversity of ethnicities, nationalities and denominations fade and people from Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan from several more countries and nationalities join each other to march all the way to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in the Iraqi city of Karbala where the holy shrine of the third Shia Imam is located.

Arba’een is the 40th day after martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) rising against the tyrant ruler of his time Yazid ibn Muawiyah and was martyred along with 72 of his companions and family members in the Battle of Karbala in 632 AH.

The event has been marked every year as millions of Muslims and loyal non-Muslims pay tribute to the third Shia Imam on Ashura, when Imam Hussein (AS) was martyred and Arba’een (40 days after the event.)
