During his day-long stay in the Iranian capital city, Tehran, Muallem is scheduled to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi and other senior officials, IRNA reported.

The top Iranian and Syrian diplomats held talks in the Syrian capital of Damascus on January 29.

Iran and Syria, which share a common position on many regional and international issues, have made great efforts to improve bilateral relations during recent years.

The value of trade exchanges between the two countries currently stands at $3 billion and is expected to hit $5 billion in the near future.

In line with the two countries' bid to bolster mutual ties, Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji Otri paid a visit to Iran earlier in March at the head of a high-ranking delegation and held talks with senior Iranian officials on ways to boost relations and on the ongoing events in the Middle East and North Africa.
