Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Saeed Hakim, prominent Shia jurisprudent in Iraqi holy city of Najaf met with Joachim Bergstrom, Swedish ambassador to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as the cleric reiterated Islamic view on confrontation with terrorism and extremism, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He slammed extremist groups for tarnishing the image of true Islam.
 
Iraqi cleric in this meeting urged the world countries to struggle for total elimination of the cancerous tumor of extremism and terrorism.
 
Ayatollah Hakim stressed role of jurisprudents demanding their followers to stand committed to Islamic principles and avoiding intrigues.
 
“Religious jurisprudents stress coexistence and respect for others in any religion the people follow” said the Iraqi cleric.
 
Swedish special envoy to combat Islamophobia and anti-Semitism expressed gratitude for Muslim jurisprudents’ struggle for prevalence of peace and alleviation of sectarian rifts in the Middle East region.
