'UN report clarifies Iran nuclear work'

The latest report by the UN nuclear agency has confirmed for the 26th time the non-diversion of Iran's nuclear program towards military purposes, Tehran's IAEA envoy says.
Ali Asghar Soltanieh said on Saturday that most parts of Friday's report are based on the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) “minute inspections” and reaffirms the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, Mehr News Agency reported.

He said the latest report was an answer to “those who have belligerent approaches.”

“The most important point about the recent report is that [IAEA Director General Yukiya] Amano has confirmed for the 26th time that there is no diversion in Iran's nuclear program towards military purposes and that all Iran's activities are under the agency's supervision,” Soltanieh said.

Iran's envoy to the IAEA further considered as positive Amano's decision to divide the report into two parts, one which clarifies Iran's obligations regarding the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the other which mentions demands made by the UN Security Council resolutions.

The report confirms that Iran is committed to its obligations under the NPT, Soltanieh said.

Regarding UN resolutions, we have repeatedly proved, through legal and international documents, that they are illegitimate, he added.

The Iranian official stressed that the UNSC demand that Iran suspend its uranium enrichment activities had no legal basis as they are monitored by the IAEA inspectors.

Soltanieh also said that the report also confirms that Iran is not conducting nuclear reprocessing activities, as claimed by the UN Security Council resolution.
