Professor of Islamic theology at Germany’s university of Munster highlighted the high potentiality of Islamic proximity to boost solidarity among Muslims calling for university courses on Islamic proximity.

Markus Gerhold, prominent professor of Islamic studies at university of Munster, met with the professors at Iran’s University of Islamic Denominations stressing the need for course on Islamic proximity at German universities and high capability of Islamic proximity to boost peace and cooperation among Muslims, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
German professor related on the growth of religious tendency among youths and their pursuit of religious identity.
 
He said that two entities of oriental and Islamic studies should be distinguished since the former maintains an external view on everything while the latter studies Islam from within the religion.
 
According to the German professor the government finds itself responsible to facilitate people with the means for religious studies; hence, it has taken the steps to launch theology courses, including Islamic theology at universities.
 
An estimated number of four to five million Muslims, mainly migrants, live in Germany all endeavoring to work beyond religious and ideological boundaries.
 
Markus Gerhald named University of Munster as the first academy launching Islamic theology course in 2004 admitting over 300 students in different Islamic courses.
 
He stressed necessity of launching an Islamic proximity course in German universities stressing that expansion of proximity will lead to more cooperation and peace among Muslims.
