Afghan minister stresses necessity of interfaith dialogue

Disagreements between Muslim communities, particularly in Afghanistan, are due to lack of knowledge on different denominations.

Najibullah Khwaja Omari, Afghanistan minister of higher education, visited Iran’s University of Religions and Islamic Denominations hailing Iranian academy which indiscriminately welcomes diversity of denominations, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Afghan top official in a meeting with Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Abul Hassan Navvab, head of the University of Religions and Islamic Denominations and said,” I do not think any other university which particularly studies religions and introduces Islam and Muslims to other schools of thought.”
He said,” Studying other religions and denominations will lead to expansion of viewpoints among scholars” and added,” In the present world where everything is joining the process of globalization, expansion of such common views will certainly influence social relations between countries and religions to settle disagreements and bring viewpoints closer.”
Afghan top official stressed,” Any inappropriate move is due to lack of knowledge and once enough knowledge is supplied the solution for disagreements will emerge to prevent deepening of issues between people.”
Najibullah Khwaja Omari also highlighted demands for interaction and interfaith dialogue between different religions criticizing a majority of predicaments in the present Afghanistan as a result of disagreement among Muslims.
“Academic centers like Iran’s University of Religions and Denominations can play a key role in confrontation with the biggest regional challenge, extremism and introducing different viewpoints ” he said reiterating measures to unify Muslims and taking steps for a counter-terrorism campaign in the region.
He highlighted commonalities of Iran and Afghanistan in different arenas and expressed hope for cooperation of Iranian major religious academy with religious centers in Afghanistan.
