presstv , 8 Apr 2018 - 13:09

White House chief of staff has reportedly threatened to quit his post as a rift appears to tar his relations with President Donald Trump.

Kelly reportedly threatened to quit while walking back to his office from a meeting with Trump in the Oval Office on March 28.

At the meeting, the 67-year-old retired general “blew up” at Trump, Axios said in a report on Saturday, adding that Kelly’s threat was not related to the firing of former Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin, which happened on the same day.

According to a senior administration official, calling it a threat was "probably too strong, it was more venting frustration."

The former secretary of Homeland Security “often says he doesn't have to be there and didn't seek the job originally,” according to the report.

He has reportedly started packing up his personal belongings.

The president had reportedly ignored Kelly’s advice to fire Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Scott Pruitt.

The EPA chief, who is embroiled in a several scandals related to spending, has been protected by the president.

The White House has recently seen a serious shake-up with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and national security adviser H.R. McMaster gone.

The long list of dismissals and resignations in the Trump administration reveals the chaotic play of power inside the White House, run by a former celebrity businessman.
