Qur’an Competition for Blind Chechens

Seeking to integrate blind Muslims in the Chechen community, a Russian competition is being organized in Grozny for reading the Noble Qur’an among the blind believers according to Braille method.

“The competition will be a significant event not only for the participants of the competition, but for the youth too,” the deputy chairman of the organizing committee Ramzan Mustaev told Islam.ru website on Wednesday, August 21.

“We are hope that the behavior of the visually impaired believers will push young generation of faithful to the study of the sacred book of Muslims.”

The campaign is planned next August 24 in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic.

The competition aims at providing a platform to grant blind Muslims a ’belief’ in their abilities, as well as contributing in raising their social responsibility feeling.

The event is sponsored by the “Put” TV Company, and Ministry of Religious Affairs and Awaqaf which would be represented by Deputy Minister Dr. Adel Al-Falah.

It’s expected to be attended by representatives from different regions in Russia.

The competition, the first of its kind in Grozny, would be devoted to the name of first President of Chechen Republic, Akhmad-Haji Kadyrov.

It would be judged by a team of reputed scholars, including Adam Shahidov, the counselor of the Head of the Chechen Republic, Sheikh Mahira Al-Munandzhid from Syria, Ayman Rushdi Suwaid, who is known as the master of the Quran and Ibrahim Sabirov, as a representative of the World Organization of Qur'an studying.

The Russian Federation is home to some 23 million Muslims in the north of the Caucasus and southern republics of Chechnya, Ingushetia and Dagestan.

Islam is Russia's second-largest religion representing roughly 15 percent of its 145 million predominantly Orthodox population.

The majority of Chechens today live in the Republic of Chechnya, a federal subject of Russia.

According to the 2010 Census, the population of the republic is about 1.26 million of which 1.2 are Chechens, making up 95.3 percent of the republic's population.

Muslims believe that being disabled is a test from Allah in this life, and therefore can be a blessing in disguise.

Every disabled person should be patient and live up to this challenge.

Islam also instructs Muslims to offer people with special needs due respect and attention.

They should be cared for and all their needs should be fulfilled and they should not be isolated as they are an integral part of the society.
