Vatican replies felicity letter from Ayatollah Araki

Vatican replied the letter from Iranian Shia cleric congratulating the election of new Roman pontiff and expressed hope for spread of interreligious dialogue.



In reply to the felicity letter by grand Ayatollah Araki, Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Cardinal Jean Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Inter Religious Dialogue, sent a letter on behalf of the Roman Pontiff, expressing his gratefulness for the kind gesture and quoted His Holiness’ wish to promote reconciliation and build peace, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

President of the Pontifical Council for Inter Religious Dialogue, in part of the letter quoted Pope Francis speech in the ceremony to receive representatives of different religious traditions and wrote,” The Catholic Church is conscious of the importance of promoting friendship and respect between men and women of different religious traditions- a sign of this can be seen in the important work carried out by the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.”

Cardinal Tauran also highlighted to love and protect as the responsibility of all people for the world and the whole creation.

“There is much we can do to benefit the poor, the needy and those who suffer, and favor justice, promote reconciliation and build peace.” He wrote in another part of the letter.

Top in the Christian center for interreligious dialogue, the cardinal quoted the remarks of Pope Francis to Muslim delegates attending his inauguration ceremony and wrote,” I greatly appreciate your presence: in it, I see a tangible sign of a will to grow in mutual esteem and in cooperation for the common good of humanity.”

Following the election of Pope Francis as the new Pontiff of Roman Church, grand Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, Iranian cleric and Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought sent a letter to His Holiness congratulating his election and expressing hope for more cooperation between the worlds of Islam and Christianity.

Iranian Islamic unity center focuses on boosting ties between followers of different Islamic denominations as well as the worlds of Islam and Christianity.
