“Supreme Leader views Islamic unity as national benefit, religious necessity”, Sunni cleric

Top Iranian Sunni cleric hailed Islamic Republic as a role model for the world of Islam urging all Muslims not to turn division as an opportunity for enemies.

Molavi Abdul Ghani Sourani, representative of the Supreme Leader in Sunni mosques and clerics’ affairs in Sistan and Baluchistan in an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) referred to the serious pursuit of Islamic unity by the late Imam Khomeini (RA) and the Supreme Leader.
 
He said,” The late founder of Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini (RA) and Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the secret to survival of Muslims from plots by the arrogant powers lays in boosting Islamic unity.”
 
He also referred to naming of the year 1386 (2006) as the year of Unity and Islamic Solidarity and added,” In view of the Supreme Leader, Islamic unity is a national benefit and a religious tradition and not merely a motto so that Muslims maintain their unity as far as the enemies are in ambush.”
 
Molavi Dehani noted,” We should highlight our commonalities naming monotheism, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), shared Qibla (praying direction) and holy Qur’an even Ahlul Bayt (AS), household of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in order to maintain out solidarity.”
 
He called Imam Ali (AS), first Shia Imam and cousin of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) as the axis of unity since all Islamic denominations are loyal to him and quoted the Supreme Leader calling on Muslims to boost their solidarity since the only solutions for the issues in the world of Islam are Islamic awakening and unity.
 
Senior Iranian Sunni scholar warned of the enemies plotting to undermine unity among Muslims and urged Muslims to stand vigil against enemies.
 
He also slammed the enemies making use of different means including financial and political sanctions and said,” We should not let our capabilities and intellectuals to be wasted on clashes.”
 
He hailed Iran over the coexistence of the Shia and Sunni Muslims living at full peace and urged all people to maintain the solidarity among them.
