People in the Iranian holy city of Qom are making preparations to welcome Nowruz, Persian New Year. Traditionally Iranians and the countries marking Nowruz begin the year with new clothes and spreading Haft Seen which includes seven items (mainly edible) whose names begin with the "S" sound. The items symbolize new life, freshness, health and prosperity.
