Ashura-theme decorations in Tehran streets (photo)

Iranian people install decorations with the theme of Ashura in their neighborhoods as part of their contribution to Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) martyred in the Battle of Karbala in 632 AH. People particularly mark the first ten days of Muharram concurrent with martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam who fought the tyrant ruler of his time, Yazid ibn Muawiyah. Imam Hussein (AS) and 72 members of his companions and household members were martyred in the Battle of Karbala though the incident is widely marked by millions of Muslims and non-Muslims loyal to the third Shia Imam across the globe.
