Crucial moment for Iraq begins knocking at the door

The crucial moment for Iraq knocking at the door calls for the nation to gear up and observe their coming election slated to be held on May 12. The result of May 12 election, which of its nature can be held as the harbinger of unity for the country, is of prime importance playing a telling role in the region.

An early agreement,
with this connection, among Iraqi officials set September 2017 as the date for the election, but the schedule by six months was delayed on account of civil war with DAESH, the Takfiri group accountable for the militancy.

Iraq, in the long run, has managed to recapture its land clearing almost entire towns of ISIS in a war that took its nation three years or so. In the here and now of course, even a cursory look at the coming election illustrates those supplying the way for DAESH still help some groups to win the ballots and unseat others in a bid to advance their set objectives in the country.

The upcoming event is the country's
fourth parliamentary polls since the fall of former dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003. Some 7,187 candidates have registered to compete for the 329 seats up for grabs and an estimated 24 million Iraqis are eligible to vote. The winners comprising the members of Council of Representatives which in turn is to elect the Iraqi President and Prime Minister.

Volunteer aids spread across the country so as to put up posters of hopefuls changing the face of Iraq's towns and cities. Taking a glance at present moment in the country, you can see not only  streets but also Iraqi virtual world crammed full of posters and pictures put up and shared by hopefuls with an eye to win the polling.

Delving deeper into the event shows another angle in which there stand a lot of controversies  surrounding the
campaign. The event somehow has been marred by  people's  rage at aides pulling down pictures of volunteer fighters martyred in the war on extremist group of DAESH and replacing them with the campaign posters.

To Iraqi people, replacing the image of martyrs with election hopefuls is an absolute disgrace. Pulling down martyrs’ pictures is counted by them as an insult to the memory of those who joined voluntarily to the military army so as sacrifice their lives for Iraqi nation.
