Hezbollah's Delayed victory in Lebanon parliamentary election

By Aziz Shahmohammadi
Hezbollah

Lebanon parliamentary election, held on Sunday May 6, brought a great and outright victory for resistance. In the election, Hezbollah secured 38 seats; together with independent groups and nominees backed by the group, it won 68 seats in total. Saad Hariri, incumbent prime minister who is counted as the leader of Sunni community of Lebanon gained 21 seats, and Samir Geagea leader of the Christian Lebanese Forces (he is infamous for being a terrorist and accomplice in the murder of former president of Lebanon; Geagea jailed for a long time got rid of life imprisonment with the pressure of France and other Western governments, and later was backed in election) received 15 seats. The sole thing marred Sunday election's result was the number of voters which fell from 54% in 2009 to 49.2% in 2018.

In the Lebanese parliamentary elections, almost all the candidates and individuals, under the protection of Hezbollah, secured their seats in the parliament. As in the areas under the control of Saad Hariri in Beirut, Tripoli and Sidon, pro-Hezbollah sunni candidates received the majority of votes.

Although Hezbollah secretary-general Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah described the outcome of the polling as a great political and moral triumph, but in point of fact, Hezbollah's result in the 2018 election should be held as a long delayed victory. On the eve of the Lebanese parliamentary elections in 2009, all speculation and polls gave every indication of Hezbollah's victory in the election.

Hezbollah, which discredited the legion of the Zionism invincibility through defeating its army in 2006 within 33-day war, appeared as a full-fledged defender of Lebanon and Lebanese nation.

But regarding the fact that Politics is a world of uncertainties and surprises, Saad Hariri Party finding his way, supplied by Saudi suitcases full of Dollars, secured his outright victory. Since 2009, although Hariri (read Saudis) had the majority of seats (whose number shows legal-parliamentary power), the policy that this majority followed in favor of Saudis was never desirable for Lebanese people.

The foresaid dichotomies showed themselves in the case of Lebanese presidency which should be elected by the parliament; the political event was supposed to be held in 2013, but the failure of the Lebanese Parliament in electing a new President ended up in the extension of the term until 2017 and later 2018.

European, US and Arab media, which are against Hezbollah, in and out of Lebanon, introduced the resistant party, since day one, as a tribal group of Shiites backed by Iran.

It's almost impossible to find the name of Hezbollah without the foresaid description in those media. So in such context, why did Hezbollah win the Lebanese election? The telling point, with this connection, is that Hezbollah not only maintained its traditional supporters, but also despite the standing negative propaganda showed a very good record.

The success of Hezbollah shows, "winning is not everything". Hezbollah's strategic action was to share the sweetness of victory with others. So other groups came to this very conclusion that by a powerful Hezbollah, their interests would be better served.

Hezbollah has proved to Lebanese people that it is a full-fledged Lebanese party; it proved that Hezbollah neither belongs to specific tribe nor is similar to faces like Saad Hariri or Samir Geagea.
The Lebanese, in other words, declared on Sunday security, independence and dignity (in a word of interest) of Lebanon would be better served by Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah.

In response to the results of parliamentary elections in Lebanon, while Europeans and Americans are in severe pain and fell silent, any negative reaction would be counted as a move against Lebanese voters.

Given that, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, crown prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammad bin Zayed are swept into a corner licking their wounds.

Minister of Education in the Cabinet of the Zionist regime Naftali Bent who is as violent and merciless as Netanyahu and hope to take his place if Netanyahu's corruption and bribery is proved, said, "Since now Hezbollah means Lebanon and Lebanon means Hezbollah."  The comment means Lebanese should pay the price for their choice, and should not expect 11 billion dollars (which was slated to be given to Lebanon in case of Hezbollah's defeat.)

Saudi Arabia and Emirates, possibly, stop making investment in Lebanon and even take their investment out of the country.  These challenges are inevitable ones coming after victory. And if the voters chose the way of resistance, they were cognizant of difficulties come after maintaining dignity and independence.
