Failure of Daesh or shift in military clashes

by: Aziz Shahmohamadi
What distinguishes the operation and command by General Soleimani is the humanitarian side of his command amid one of the toughest battle fields when Daesh terrorists hid among civilian homes making use of the residents as human shields. Victory of Major General Soleimani was achieved with the least injury to civilians and captives held by Daesh.
Failure of Daesh or shift in military clashes
On any account Daesh should not have lost the war.  Saudi Arabia, to quote former Saudi head of state King Abdullah, has spent 200 billion dollars and Doha, to quote former Qatari prime minister, allocated 137 billion dollars for Daesh. The sum has to be added by what UAE, Turkey, the US, UK, France and other countries have contributed. Daesh has been under the support of powerful members of the UNSC with veto right while it received variety of advisory aids from the UK, France and the US. This is while European and American fighter aircrafts, besides covering Daesh operations, when entrapped airlifted the militants or supplied them with weapons via air. In a quote by Iran’s Major General Soleimani, Daesh during its mission has hired a total number of 6’000 suicide bombers to attack schools, hospitals, government buildings and any accessible target.

Daesh composed of multi-national forces specifically hired to murder and destroy even at the price of their lives.

History of military advancements is a proof that forces much limited and detrimental than Daesh could successfully resist against reinforced regiments and even beat the talented forces from world superpowers. In the history of military clashes, failure of the US in Vietnam War is a major instance for incapability of regiments in confrontation with paramilitary organizations, the same type of failure experienced by former Soviet Union in confrontation with Afghan Mujahideen.

A known military quote says enemies learn from each other meaning that no matter how much a fighter is trained in military camps or academies, warring sides in a battlefield still learn from each other. Military experiences since 80’s have evidenced that regiments stand a narrow chance in confrontation with rebel militia, terrorist groups and resistance forces. Former Soviet war against Afghan Mujahideen, Turkish army against PKK, US war on Taliban, US battle in Somalia, US experience in Iraq war, Zionist regime battle on Hezbollah and Hamas also Syrian army in confrontation with terrorists and finally the devastating failure of Saudi army in Yemen are all examples to reveal that regiments are challenged by the phenomenon of “power limitations”. Hence, the massive arms and supports for Daesh as well as the history of military clashes were all going to prove Daesh as the winner of the war within a short time.

Though, as time passed the promised victory became less and less expected. Daesh, as a war machine, destroyed civilization heritages in besieged lands, and with an utmost brutal killing backed by all out supports from Europe and the US spared no effort to win the war leaving no brutal measure untaken.

Daesh and its supporters certainly committed all known and unknown types of crime against humanity, children, civilians, prisoners of war and the wounded. They perpetrated war crimes, crimes against human civilization heritage and any imaginable form of crime. In other words to count the crimes committed by Daesh is impossible; so, maybe one should think of what it did not commit.

Amid this situation Iran’s Major General Soleimani was in charge of commanding the irregular war against Daesh.

History of military warfare includes several commanders and generals each one outstanding due to a particular achievement in history. On this list, and indeed on top of the list for commanders of irregular wars, the name of Major General Soleimani has specified a certain historical space to itself. In other words, there is only one name on this list and that is Major General Qassim Soleimani as there has not been any commander, since withdrawal of Russian forces from Afghanistan, to gain victory in irregular wars. Through genocide, war crimes, suicide bombing and using chemical weapons, Daesh dominated some lands, though to beat the terrorist group did not include any measure deviating military justice. It is in this sense that General Soleimani is the winner of both military and humane aspect of a campaign against Daesh.

Eventually, to win Daesh in an irregular war with irregular military backed by economic, military, intelligence and logistics superpowers has invalidated Europe, the US and Israel as military superpowers, at least in irregular warfare.

The trio, when array against irregular military, does not necessarily prove the warring side as the loser and once joined by irregular military, do not conclusively guarantee its victory. Daesh is a renowned instance of the fact.
