Iranian translator Mandana Farhadian has provided Persian readers with translation of the book “The History of Medicine: A Very Short Introduction” which assesses the origins and development of medicine in ancient times throughout centuries to the present, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The book tells the adventures of man’s scientific achievements and the biography of scientists some quite renown and some unknown to the public.

“The History of Medicine” is story of science through the time put in simple words.

The introduction of the book opens with,” This is a short book on a very big subject. I have tried to provide a general framework for understanding the history of medicine since the ancient Greeks established what can be called the Western medical tradition. I present my history through a typology of the ‘kinds’ of medicine.”

The book takes a thematic rather than strictly chronological approach exploring the key turning points in the history of Western medicine-such as the first surgical procedures, the advent of hospitals, the introduction of anesthesia, X-Rays, vaccinations, and many other innovations.
