Top Iranian cleric called Shia and Sunni Muslims as interwoven bodies hailing the Sunni community for protecting Shia throughout history.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Abul-Hassan Navab, president of the University of Religions and Denominations attended the summit on Islamic denominations, requirements and necessities held in the Iranian holy city of Mashhad hailing the Sunni Muslims for protecting Shia community in some historical instances calling them as interwoven socity, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
In part of his remarks in this meeting, Hujjat-ul-Islam Navab demanded Shia and Sunni communities to convene a meet their religious leaders since victory is for those who follow the culture of dialogue.
 
He referred to several instances of disagreement between Shia and Sunni which have been successfully managed naming Syria, a battlefield which has turned to a destination for several Arab states competing for resumption of ties with Damascus.
 
The cleric also touched upon instances of history when the Sunni community as shielded Shia minority.
 
“Shia and Sunni are interwoven into each other” said Hujjat-ul-Islam Navab and quoted to a statement by the Supreme Leader approving a Shia Muslim in western countries saying Friday prayers led by a Sunni prayer leader.
 
Iranian cleric noted that promoting the knowledge of people will increase their tolerance towards different denominations.
