US state of Ohio has called non-Muslims to attend Open Day ceremony and make use of opportunity to overcome Islamophobic ambiance spread following 911, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

“People lived in an atmosphere of shock following 911 terrorist attacks” said Khalid Iqbal, director of Islamic society in Youngstown.

He referred to much harder days which followed 911 for the Muslim community in the US as they were all indiscriminately viewed as terrorists.

Khalid Iqbal approves that the whole situation has improved though cases of violent behavior towards Muslims seem to be inevitable for the non-Muslim majority who has not got over with the incident.

“We think our religion of Islam is badly misunderstood and intend to call our non-Muslim citizens and neighbors to join us for a day and find out about Islam in an Open Doors Day ceremony” he said.

Doctor Iqbal also drew upon commonalities of Islam, Christianity and Judaism and called all to stress these common grounds.

Over 2’000 Muslims in Youngstown are serving their community as doctors, lawyers, teachers and shop keepers.
