Hiring prominent Sunni professors to teach Sunni scholars is among key features of University of Religions and Islamic Denominations so that scholars from different schools of thought freely study based on their denomination fiq’h.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Mohammad Hussein Mokhtari, director of the University of Religions and Islamic Denominations, met with Mohammad Mahdi Zahedi, member of educational commission at Iran’s Parliament and highlighted the academic ambiance jointly attended by Sunni and Shia scholars and practicing coexistence as a key feature for the Iranian religious academy, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He said,” Scholars from different Islamic denominations attend the same classes in this university, an atmosphere which provides the opportunity to practice coexistence and find a deeper understanding of each other.”
 
Hujjat-ul-Islam Mokhtari stressed training proximity researchers as a prime activity on the curriculum of the university.
 
He also referred to activities of the University of Religions and Islamic Denominations in domestic and international arena announcing plans to launch new branches of the academy in Bushehr, Golestan, Urmia and Kermanshah Provinces adding to the present three provinces of Kordestan, Sistan and Baluchistan and Hormozgan which are actively admitting scholars.
 
Hujjat-ul-Islam Mokhtari touched upon plans to launch a branch of the university in Syria as demanded by President Bashar al-Assad in the recent visit made by Iranian delegation led by Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.  
 
According to the cleric quoted Syrian President calling the university as a necessity of his country to confront extremism and Takfiri thoughts in post-Daesh era.
 
Director of University of Religions and Islamic Denominations counted establishment of security and proximity thoughts among different Islamic denominations as other achievements and planned objectives of the university.
 
Iranian MP in this meeting praised the achievements of the university and stressed importance of more support for the academy in a bid to promote proximity thoughts in society.
