More than 5,000 Yemeni children have been killed or injured since a Saudi-led coalition entered the conflict in March 2015, Save the Children said yesterday.

In an appeal, the children rights organisation said that “according to the latest figures issued by the United Nations, some children under the age of ten have been recruited for combat by parties to the conflict.”
“As many as 1,698 children have been affected by serious violations since October 2016 throughout Yemen,” it said, adding that all parties are responsible for serious violations against children.
Impoverished Yemen has remained in a state of civil war since 2014, when Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including the capital Sana’a.
In 2015, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a massive air campaign aimed at reversing Houthi military gains and shoring up Yemen’s embattled government.
According to UN officials, more than 10,000 people have been killed in the war, while more than 11 per cent of the country’s population has been displaced.
