Iraq launches Islamic Unity Forum

Attended by Shia and Sunni scholars from different countries, major Islamic unity center has been launched in Baghdad on Saturday, February 30 in line with boosting solidarity among Muslims.

Seyyed Ali al-Alagh, head of Iraq’s parliamentary commission, hailed Islamic Unity Forum as an NGO as a center launched by both Shia and Sunni scholars to revive the trust between different Islamic schools of thought, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He highlighted the role of religious leaders in boosting solidarity among Muslims and confrontation with religious, political and social challenges counting the objectives of the newly launched center to include; revival of trust between different Islamic denominations, reforming the culture of Islamic nation, prioritization of interests of the Islamic nation to other issues and also expanding the culture of proximity.
 
Among other objectives of the Islamic Unity Forum highlighted by the Iraqi figure were; to distance the Islamic community from sectarian rifts and also recognition of full freedom for different Islamic denominations in practicing religious practices and boosting solidarity among Muslims.
 
According to Seyyed Ali al-Alagh the center will struggle to channel religious disagreements to scientific studies via conducting researches on youths, women, nomadic groups and also holding annual conferences.
 
A group of Shia and Sunni scholars and religious figures from other Islamic countries were among participants to the ceremony.
