Only 37% of Gaza’s electricity needs being met

16 Feb 2018 - 12:40

Acting head of the Palestinian Ministry of Power Zafer Melhem said that 63 per cent of the besieged Gaza Strip’s electricity needs are not being met, Al-Resalah newspaper reported yesterday.

Speaking to journalists, Melhem said that the electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip deteriorated after the donor countries stopped their support for the Ministry of Energy.
Due to the strict Israeli siege, which has been in place since 2007, the Gaza Strip is on the brink of collapse in the light of suspension of medical services and the scarcity of water and electricity.
Gaza is currently only supplied with electricity for up to six hours a day.
