Al Azhar calls for emergency global meeting on al-Quds

10 Dec 2017 - 14:01

Prominent Mufti of al-Azhar has warned against repercussions of controversial decision by Donald Trump to claim Jeruslame al-Quds as Israeli capital urging for a global emergency meeting on the issue.

Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayyeb, grand Egyptian Mufti, has slammed the decision by US President Donald Trump over calling Jerusalem as the Israeli capital as disrespectful for Palestinians and Arabs in the city and disregard for the feelings of more than 1.5 billion Muslims across the globe, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He called for an emergency global meeting to defend al-Quds since the decision made by Donald Trump is irrespective of the rights of Palestinians and Arabs in al-Quds and also the first Qibla (praying direction) of Muslims.

Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayyeb stressed that al-Quds and its Arabic identity should be the major concern for all fair-minded and wise people in the world so that the Palestinian nation and millions of Arabs do not lose their trust to efficiency of international bodies.

Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar urged prominent scholars of the major Egyptian university and council of Muslim rulers to hold an emergency meeting on repercussions of the US President’s decision.
