Sara Netanyahu faces new lawsuit

The wife of the Israeli Prime Minister is facing a new legal action, media reports revealed on Friday. Sara Netanyahu is accused by a former housekeeper of treating her “like a slave”.

According to Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the lawsuit was filed by a 24-year-old ultra-Orthodox Jewish woman identified only as SR, who worked as a cleaner at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Jerusalem for a month earlier this year. SR is claiming NIS 225,000 ($64,000) as compensation for the abusive treatment she received from Netanyahu’s wife; she claims that on one occasion she was about to be beaten.
It is also alleged that Mrs Netanyahu imposed a dress code on SR that contradicted ultra-Orthodox traditions. SR added that Sarah Netanyahu accused her of stealing and shouted at her before she left.
Benjamin Netanyahu has habitually denied any allegations of wrongdoing in the household, even after the two successful lawsuits against his wife. Once again, he has refuted the new allegations. According to Britain’s Guardian newspaper, the Prime Minister used his Facebook account to describe the allegations by SR as a “blackmail attempt” and “absurd, false”.
“An employee who worked only a few days,” said the Israeli leader, “is trying to blackmail us for 225,000 shekels and get easy publicity and money, and defame Mrs Netanyahu. There is no end to the persecution. There is no end to the lies, and there is no end to the character assassination.”
