18 Oct 2017 - 10:13

Delegations from Iran and Russia met in Moscow hail 25 years of bilateral cooperation in the area of peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Speaking at the seminar under the title of “25 Years of Cooperation between Russia and Iran in the Area of Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy: New Prospects under the Joint Compressive Plan of Action, Russian Deputy FM Sergei Ryabkov stressed that all efforts aimed at undermining the nuclear agreement will yield no result.

Ryabkov, who was also the senior negotiator during the course of Iran’s nuclear negotiations with 5+1, stressed that all anti-JCPOA measures will fail to achieve any results, adding “the US, unlike Iran, has refused to fully comply with its commitments under the nuclear deal.”

Without explicitly referring to Donald Trump and his recent remarks against Iran and the nuclear agreement, he said “I am confident that all approaches in any shape and form that aim to undermine the agreement will prove unsuccessful.”

“It has become evident to the majority of the international community that the JCPOA is an appropriate document,” he stressed.

Also speaking at the seminar was Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei, who hailed the increasing growth of technical cooperation between the two countries in the area of peaceful uses of nuclear energy by referring to the construction of a nuclear unit at Bushehr power plant, the second and third reactors at this center, as well as the two sides’ joint scientific activities in production of stable isotopes.

“Iran welcomes any constructive measure that leads to expanding bilateral cooperation and establishing peace and stability in the region,” he said.

The two-day seminar is also attended by Spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi who also heads the Iranian delegation, as well as Rosatom’s Deputy CEO for International Relations, Boris Spassky.

Representatives from the 5+1 and the European Union have also been invited to take part in the seminar to receive the message that Iran and Russia’s nuclear cooperation are for peaceful purposes only, and the two countries fully welcome the establishment of global peace and security.

The seminar is organized by AEOI, Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, and the two countries ministries of foreign affairs.
