Iran finishes vice-champion at WDF World Cup

The World Darts Federation (WDF) World Cup 2017 began on October 3, and will come to an end today on October 7 in the Japanese city of Kobe where Iranian offered awe-inspiring performances and scooped three medals, including two golds.

In a stunning final showdown of women’s singles division, Iran’s Deniz Hashtbaran quelled her Irish opponent 6-4 and firmly stood on top of the podium.

Female Iranian dart player set a historic record in darts competitions as she clinched the title following seven consecutive wins over rivals from Sweden, Germany, Canada, Ireland, Russia, the Netherlands and Ireland and remained undefeated through the sportive event.

Previously on Friday, the Iranian pair of Deniz Hashtbaran and Mahshad Avazzadeh thrashed Lerena Rietbergen and Layla Brussels from the Netherlands 6-5 in the final match of girls’ section securing Iran’s first-ever gold medal at the international e vent.

Iran’s only bronze medal was bagged by Amir Ali Mirzaei who landed third in men’s singles category.
Meanwhile, Iran’s representatives in women’s singles, Mahshad Avazzadeh, and men’s pairs, comprising Amir Ali Mirzaei and Ilia Khoshnoodi, both stood in the fifth position.

Overall, the Iranian darts outfit became the vice-champion in 2017 WDF World Cup landing behind the Netherlands.

The WDF World Cup is a major darts tournament that has been held biennially since 1977.
The tournament has featured men's events since the beginning, while women's events were added in 1983 and youth events in 1999.
