Mohammad Ali Azarshab, senior Iranian thinker and Islamic unity activist, in an interview with Mehr News Agency related his views on reasons for failure of Islamic unity project.

University professor said,” We are challenging hurdles on the way of Islamic unity. European powers and their regional puppets are in a campaign against solidarity of Muslims” and added,” Their campaign equals a campaign of the media, intelligence and intrigues to hurdle this objective of Muslims.”

He noted that the present solidarity among Muslims proves that proximity has made it to resist against these campaigns to some extent which is a result of the conferences and held in the world of Islam.

Iranian Islamic figure stressed that proximity is not a mission merely for the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought but an issue which summons contributions by all organizations in iran and across the world.

He criticized provoking remarks publicized on television or the media besides those who pretend to be members of the Shia or Sunni community.

When asked on the criticism brought for absence of some prominent Islamic figures in Islamic unity conferences he said,” It is absolutely correct that all participants are not from top Muslim luminaries but Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran does not merely have a scientific aspect but it is a tribune for religious leaders from all levels.”

Mohammad Ali Azarshab was demanded for an answer to criticisms that unity is viewed only in relation with scholars excluding the scientific aspect of the issue, he rejected the allegation saying that a certain part of the participants are among university professors, authors and intellectuals when for instance the Islamic Unity Conference 2017 was on the theme of “Unity and Requirements of Modern Islamic Civilization”.

He was demanded on the reason why the annual event was not attended by sociologists, psychologists and economists to which he replied,” Paper calls are publically announced and those who are truly interested in the topic attend though we do not have many specialists who have conducted studies on, for instance, psychology of Daeshi minds.”

Mohammad Ali Azarshab is an Iranian researcher of Arab Literature, professor at University of Tehran, member of the Supreme Council at World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought and international advisor of the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
