Iranian university professor stresses:

'Islamic unity does not eliminate diversities'

Iranian academician stressed Islamic unity does not intend to eliminate diversities to make one body. It is neither possible nor rational.
Hadi Beigi, university professor, in an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) conducted on the sideline of 23rd Tehran Press Exhibition related on different aspects of Islamic unity calling diversity as a natural phenomenon existing in all cultures.

He said,” Unity does not mean to eliminate differences and this difference does not equal disagreement rather diversity” and added,” A proximity which equals elimination of diversities for formation of a unified body is neither plausible not rational.”

Iranian university professor noted that different religions have also recognized this diversity because what matters most is the behavior one follows in dealing with different ideologies.

He counted two levels of unity for the world of Islam: minimum unity which prohibits violence, extremism and elimination of each other in the light of religious, cultural and humanitarian commonalities and without that the equations, discipline and security of a society is bothered.

The second level of unity, according to Hadi Beigi, is maximum unity which is the final objective. This is a unity when no one eliminates the other one, diversities are recognized and cooperation dominates the ties.

Based on the academician maximum unity happens when different communities do not eliminate each other and live in a unified body.

Hadi Baigi also related on the hurdles for realization of maximum level of unity and counted fading presence of the elites as the first issue.

He demanded,” Why should we expect traditional religious centers like Al-Azhar and Qom and Najaf Seminaries but not the intellectuals of Muslim world?”

He noted,” Traditional scholars, due to their influence among the people, are likely to be subject to especially defend one denomination and push back the rest, an issue which does not exist among intellectuals.”

Hadi Beigi criticized some traditional scholars for prioritizing their personal interests to protection of Islamic nation to the point that issue fatwa (religious decree) to safeguard their special denomination and physical elimination of others.

He rejected that Islamic intellectualism does not approve any tribal, ethnical or denominational prioritization over those of the Muslim world.

He stressed,” Intellectuals set protection of the Islamic territories, tribal and Islamic culture and also maintaining the differences with western culture on a higher stance and that is the certain capacity which has been neglected in line with Islamic proximity.”
