Ramadan traditions across the globe 2 (photo)

Like religious and traditional occasions across the globe, Muslims mark Ramadan with special confectionaries and foods especially nutritious cuisines which suit the demands of a body which has abstained from eating and drinking for long hours.

It is a month for giving iftar meals to anyone who fasts and the needy people. In most of the countries people spread iftar tables in the streets serving the passersby and those who cannot be home for iftar.

Charity acts are one of the most popular as an outcome of long hours of voluntary abstention from foods and drinks is to feel the hardships of those who do not have access to daily provisions; hence, almost all Muslims who afford it, make donations to organizations which collect charity or directly help the underprivileged families.

In some countries a fasting day can be as long as 18 hours however it is not mandatory for the sick people, elderly and those who cannot fast for any reason.

Ramadan is also marked for Laylat al-Qadr (Qadr Night or the Night of Destiny) when according to the holy Qur’an the destiny of people for the next one year is destined. Muslims spend the three nights, one of which is said to be Laylat al-Qadr, with prayers for fulfilled wishes and best destiny.
