Syrians hold first communion in five years (photo)

St. Mary Orthodox Church in Dayr al-Zawr Province, Syria, has hosted prayers in the first communion held in five years and following cleansing of the city from Daesh terrorists. Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch, in his recent visit to the war-torn province, visited a number of churches and mosques in the region holding a praying ceremony attended by Christian citizens and Muslim luminari.

The praying session was held in the middle of the debris of St. Mary Church in extreme simplicity substituting a table for the Altar and plastic chairs for the pew.

Dayr al-Zawr governor referred to the reconstruction of the region and called the visit made by the patriarch as a proof for solidarity of Syrians from different groups.
